South King County vandalism reports rise 30% to 35 in week ending Oct 6

Auburn Police Department and the King County Sheriff's Office recorded 35 vandalism reports in South King County in Sep 30–Oct 6, 2026, up 30% from 27 the week before — the week's largest count and biggest percentage move. Both agencies report incident counts, not calls. Shoplifting reports, from the King County Sheriff's Office, fell to 7 from 11, and theft from buildings dropped to 3 from 6. Burglary reports were 5, down from 6, and trespass or prowler reports were 9, down from 11.

For retail centers, a 30% rise in vandalism reports alongside continued shoplifting points to ongoing after-hours damage to storefronts and parking areas. Offices and industrial sites get more from security patrol rounds and consistent incident reporting than from one-off repairs, because repeat damage at the same address is what drives ongoing cost. On construction and job sites, camera monitoring covers perimeters and equipment yards during the hours when nobody is on site.

Auburn recorded 17 tracked records, the most in the region, followed by Burien with 15 and unincorporated King County with 11; Covington and SeaTac each recorded 5. In local news, a person was stabbed in a possible domestic violence incident in Burien.
