Questions

What do the incident reports show?

Each region page counts burglary, commercial burglary, shoplifting, theft from buildings, vandalism, trespass, commercial alarms, suspicious activity at buildings and fires for the latest week, compares them with the week before, breaks them down by city or neighborhood, and lists recent incidents from local news.

Where does the data come from?

From public police, sheriff and fire data: the Seattle Police and Fire departments, the King County Sheriff's Office, the Everett, Bellevue, Redmond, Bothell, Auburn and Tacoma police departments, and the Pierce County Sheriff's Department, plus local news outlets for recent incidents.

Which areas are covered?

Five regions: Seattle by neighborhood; North King and South Snohomish (Everett, Shoreline, Kenmore, Bothell); the Eastside (Bellevue, Redmond, Sammamish); South King County (Auburn, Burien, SeaTac); and Tacoma and Pierce County.

How often are the reports updated?

Each page shows when it was last updated and the date its data runs through. Most agencies publish daily, so the latest full week is usually only a few days old.

What is the difference between a call and a report?

A call is a request for police or fire service, counted when it is dispatched. A report is an incident a police agency recorded. Each figure says which one it counts.
