Seattle burglary reports fall 47% while trespass calls climb 11%
Seattle Police Department report counts for Oct 2–Oct 8, 2026 show burglary at 123, down 47% from 233 the prior week, and theft from buildings at 23, down 70% from 77. Vandalism reports fell 39%, to 99 from 161. In the separate Sep 27–Oct 3 call counts, trespass/prowler reached 457 (up 11% from 411) and commercial burglary 114 (up 50% from 76), while suspicious activity at buildings rose 55% to 87 from 56. Seattle Fire Department calls for dumpster and rubbish fires rose 48%, to 34 from 23.
For commercial properties the week's mixed signal is fewer reported burglaries but more calls about people on and around property: trespass/prowler calls reached 457 and suspicious-activity calls at buildings rose 55%. That pattern fits security patrol rounds and posted responder presence for retail centers, office towers and industrial yards, while dumpster and rubbish fire calls rising 48% to 34 point to AI camera monitoring of exterior storage and trash enclosures.
The busiest neighborhoods in the latest tracked period were Capitol Hill with 29 records, Northgate with 18, Queen Anne with 17, South Lake Union/Cascade with 16 and the University District with 12. Local news this week included a pickup ramming a Lynnwood jewelry store in a robbery attempt, and a shooting near Kerry Park that left two people injured.
